We, the Friends of the Michigan City Public Library, are book lovers, information seekers, readers, listeners,
music and movie buffs. We are young and old, with varying interests and backgrounds. We all treasure ideas and value the public
library as a vital community resource. We all believe that Michigan City Public Library is an excellent library, ready to
serve the whole community.
We provide the community with opportunities to invest in the success of the Library as well as literary
and education communities by donating funds or by donating time through volunteering. We raise money and we raise our voices
to ensure a first-class public library for Michigan City. We have established a Trust for the Library to which any individual,
company, family or organization may donate. From our dedicated staff to our committed Board of Directors, from our enthusiastic members to our
extraordinary volunteers, from our generous donor base to the thousands of people who benefit from the programs we provide
and support... we are what our name implies: a collection of committed, caring individuals who share a common vision of a
superior free public library accessible by all.
Our mission is to create, steward, and support a superior, free public library in Michigan City. We are committed
to raising the standard of excellence of our library by funding programs and services beyond what is allocated in the Library’s
budget. We believe in free and equal access to information for all.
Won’t you join us?
Advocacy
According to a recent Harris Poll, 7 of 10 people nationally share that enthusiasm and see libraries as pillars
of community, cultural centers, community centers, and family destinations. But libraries need more than love. That’s
why, this year, we’re urging you to explore ways to help our Library stay healthy and vibrant in these hard economic
times.
Michigan City is part of a national phenomenon of increased library
use that has been coined “The Public Library
Renaissance.” As
individuals and families reconsider their budgets, they’re flocking to our library for free resources and services. Library
supporters, we need your letters and voices now in order to communicate to elected officials the impact The Library has on
your life, especially during these difficult economic times.
Please use the form below to tell us…and our elected officials…how
our Library has made life better for you and your family…for your company, your organization, your community. The completed
forms will be sent to our local, state and national elected officials. Thank you, most sincerely, for telling your story.
