Inquire ... Dream ... Create ... Discover.
That's what Libraries are for.
That's what Friends are for.

If you’re looking for the heart of any community, look no further than the local library. It’s the one place in America where the doors are open to everyone, whether you’re
  • filling out an online job application or using resources to help you pass your job certification exams;
  • sitting in a school library media center learning skills to prepare you for a lifetime of learning in our digital world or a grandmother learning to e-mail you’re grandson overseas;
  • studying for college exams or living somewhere where the library provides your only access to education beyond the high school level;
  • researching your past or looking for citizenship and a new home in America;
  • the richest person in America, or someone without a home,
the library is there for you. It is America’s great equalizer, providing everyone the same access to information and opportunities for success.

What do the Friends do?

The Friends support library programs, raise funds for special purposes, volunteer to do projects, promote community awareness of libraries, advocate for funding of The Library, and support the freedom of individuals to read what they wish.

We raise funds, with the help of our tireless volunteers, at various events planned each year.

Some Friends are deeply involved, some lend their moral support.

Friends are ambassadors to the community.

Members help share the news about all the ways the Michigan City Public Library change people's lives and connect them to the world.

Friends work with the Library staff to help provide electronic resources, books and media to contribute to the goals of the library’s patrons and directly contribute to the children, youth and adults attending its programs by acting as ambassadors and advocates with elected officials.

We are the volunteers who assist Library staff at programs such as “Writing Out Loud,” and performances, programs and other activities for patrons of all ages.

Friends raise money to contribute to Library needs that can't be met in the Library’s operating budget.

Join us in helping the Library provide education and entertainment to our residents.

We’ll see you at the Library!

One of the greatest gifts my brother and I received from my mother was her love of literature and language. With their boundless energy, libraries open the door to these worlds and so many others. I urge young and old alike to embrace all that libraries have to offer.                                     Caroline Kennedy

People w/ excessive paperwork

My guess is (it will be) about 300 years until computers are as good as, say, your local reference library in search.
